La razza TOYGER, creazione di Singora Judy Sugden, USA, é un gatto domestico "da designer".
 
 
I TOGYER sono piccole tigri di casa e sono dolci di carattere, taglia media con un pelo settosissimo e cristallino con glitter.
 
Qui in italia i nostri primi esemplari sono arrivati nel'autunno-inverno 2006. Collaboriamo con la creatrice della razza, Judy Sugden dalla California per sviluppare la caratteristica genetica della pancia bianca in questa favolosa, nuova razza. C

I TOYGER (cioê dal'inglese "toy" = gioccatolo o, con animali, misura molto piccola + tiger = tigre) sono accettati da TICA come nuova razza con la particolaritâ genetica che le strisce del tigrato domestico si sono mutate geneticamente con le rosette della razza bengala che é stato usata nella fondazione dei TOYGER per formare strisce molto simile alle tigri:

Il Toyger - una tigre giocattolo!
 
Il nome di questa razza indica non tanto una tigre in miniatura quanto piuttosto un giocattolo, un tigrotto, dove la tigre stessa è il punto focale sebbene non l'unico obiettivo. Dalla natura particolarmente dolce, una razza di rara bellezza, i Toygers sono gatti con un'eccellente qualità della pelliccia, lucente e setosa, che mostra un pattern a strisce ben definite derivato da quello del Mackerel Tabby.
 
Judy Sudgen in California ebbe l'idea di un tigrotto 20 anni fà mentre sua madre, Jean Mill, stava creando la razza Bengal. Judy notò delle variazioni apparire nel pattern del Bengal di allora ed iniziò a selezionare mantelli lucenti con ampie e ben distanziate strisce rotte e intrecciate.
 
Utilizzò dei Mackerel Tabby, due gatti domestici importati dall'India e dal Kashmir nonché dei Bengal per creare una base genetica da cui selezionare un gatto lungo, muscoloso, dalla coda lunga, con il muso affusolato e strisce ben definite. Il Toyger dovrebbe essere più pesante e muscoloso nella parte anteriore del corpo (in contrasto con i Bengal, che sono più pesanti e alti all'altezza dei fianchi), con una testa ben formata. La testa deve essere lunga, il muso ampio (calcolando l'ampiezza da sotto gli occhi), il mento prominente, gli occhi piccoli, le orecchie rotonde e le più piccole possibile.
 
Le strisce devono essere presenti sulla schiena e suddivide in tre tipi: quelle sulle spalle che terminano ai fianchi; le strisce mediane come occhi di gatto a fessura sui fianchi; e da sotto il corpo un altro gruppo di strisce più corte che si unisce a quelle precedentemente descritte.
Le zampe devono essere a strisce come un tabby (non come una tigre, che non ha alcuna
striscia sugli arti) che si estendono fino alle dita. La coda deve essere molto lunga, spessa e simile a una corda (senza assottigliarsi) e con strisce ad anello.
 
In futuro i segni sulla faccia e testa dovranno divenire rotondi e seguire i segni tipici della tigre; il Toyger ideale dovrà avere un ventre bianco. Noi di Dynastia Toygers in Piemonte, stiamo lavorando con Judy per un programma che aggiunga questa caratteristica genetica a partire dai nostri Bengal.
 
Modifiche alle varianti di colore conosciute sono consentite all'interno della categoria brown tabby. L'obiettivo tuttavia è un colore terrigno aranciato con strisce nere. Un programma di allevamento sta lavorando su Toygers silver, ma al momento lo standard esclude tutti gli altri colori ad eccezione del brown.
 
 
The Toyger - a Toy Tiger!
 
The name of the breed indicates the vision: not a miniature tiger, but a "toy", gioccatolo, tiger, having the tiger itself as a point of reference but not as the sole objective. An extremely sweet-natured, gentle breed of exceptional beauty, the Toygers are indeed a brown "designer cat" with the highest quality of fur, glittered and silky smooth, with very specifically-developed striped patterns derived from the Traditional Domestic Mackerel Tabby pattern.
 
Judy Sugden of California envisioned a small, "toy" tiger 20 years ago while her mother, Jean Mill, was creating the Bengal breed. Judy saw variations in pattern arising from the then hybrid state of the Bengal breed and began selecting for widely-spaced, broken and braided stripes with a clear, glittered coat. She used domestic Classic Mackerel Tabbies, two domestic cats she imported from Indian and Kashmir as well as Bengals to create a genetic base from which she selected a long, muscular, long-tailed, long-muzzled cat with strong stripes. The Toyger should be heavier and more muscular in the front of the body (as opposed to Bengals, which should heavier and taller at the hips), with a very distinguishing head form. The head should be long, the muzzle wide (starting its width below the eyes), the chin very heavy, the eyes small, the ears round and as small as possible.
 
The stripes should be over-the-back and many should be broken up into three types: The over-the-should stripe ending at the flanks; the middle stripe being like the slit of a cat's eye on the flanks and sides of the body; and from underneath the body should come another, shorter stripe to near the slit-formed ones on the sides. The legs should be striped like a tabby (not like a tiger, which has no striped band going down the legs) and extending onto the toes. The tail should be very long, thick and rope-like (not tapering) and well ringed with stripes.
 
In the future, the markings on the face should all be rounded and following the idea of the markings of the tiger and the ideal Toyger should have a well-whited underbody. We at Dynastia Toygers in the Piedmont are working with Judy on a programme to add this genetic feature from our Bengals.
 
Allowances are made for all of the known variations of colour within the brown tabby category. The goal, however, is a bright orange ground colour with deep black stripes. One breeding programme is working on silver Toygers, but the standard excludes all other colours except brown to date.
